If Russian troops place an air defense system of the S-300 type on Zmeiny Island, they will receive an “umbrella”, that is, cover from the sky, which they lost in the face of the sunken cruiser Moskva.
In addition, thanks to the location of such a long-range air defense system and cruise missiles on the island, Russia will control the entire south-west of Ukraine.
Military expert Oleg Zhdanov told about this on the air of the YouTube channel “Ukraine 24”.
“That is (to control – ed.) Most of the Odessa region, the entire Black Sea and approaches to our ports,” the expert specified.
“At the same time, they will receive the “umbrella” that they lost in the face of the Moskva cruiser – I mean the “umbrella” of cover from the sky. And then the squadron can try to land troops either through the estuary directly into Moldova or through Bessarabia. Therefore, it (Snake – ed.) is so important,” Zhdanov explained.
He noted who owns the island – he has the key to this zone.
Recall that earlier the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, explained that the Serpent Island is of strategic importance both for Ukraine and for the Russian occupiers, since it allows controlling the surface and, to a certain extent, the air situation in southern Ukraine. The island is also strategically important in terms of the possibility of Russian tactical amphibious landings.
