Portable speakers that allow you to play music in nature or at home are a dime a dozen. It seems that everyone rushed to create such speakers, and the recipe for success is simple – you need to add speakers to the Bluetooth module, choose a shell design, and the product is ready. Unfortunately, few people pay attention to the sound quality. The Nakamichi brand is one of the few that is trying to make its audio products sound above average. That is, to give buyers more than other companies in the same price range. About what kind of company Nakamichi, I wrote in “Spillikins”, I will not repeat here and refer you to that text.

The first thing that confused me about the Punch column was the cost. In Russia, the column is sold for 9 rubles, while in other countries the cost is slightly higher – usually the price is slightly higher than $ 990. That in recalculation gives 200 thousand rubles, or even more. It is a rare story when on the Russian market the same product is offered at a cost less than more. Let’s write it off on the fact that Nakamichi is just entering our market. The initial cost of the column is $ 15, space!

But the reason for such a cost is not that the column has any flaws, but rather a deliberate policy of the distributor who wants to introduce the market to a new brand and offers an adequate pricing policy.

The name Punch refers to a professional term for the speed and clarity of the sound at the top of the bass, such as plucking a bass string or hitting a drum with a stick.

The speaker has three colors – black, blue, red.

I’ll start with the boring one, which is how the speaker comes in, it’s a big box. It is not customary to focus on the box, but here it is important, since speakers of this kind are often given, and if the packaging is so-so, then the gift is perceived at the same level.

Everything here is packed wonderfully, you open the lid and see an insert with the name of the company.

The package is simple, but it has everything you need – a shoulder strap, AUX cable, USB Type C charging cable. The instruction is present, as well as the warranty card, but it will not be difficult to understand the column, you will not need to resort to paper instructions.

Fabric has become a familiar material for speakers, here it is good, and at the same time the speaker has an IPX7 (IP66) protection standard. In fact, you can drown the column at a depth of up to a meter, but it will continue to work and will not cause any problems. The column was created precisely for this, so that it would feel great in the rain or by the pool.

When turned on, the speaker emits a proprietary sound, alas, there is no separate application for a smartphone, where you can configure the mute of this sound, set something else. For my taste, it would be nice to be able to turn on the speaker silently. On the other hand, the sound is not annoying and lets you know that the speaker has turned on and is working.

On the underside of the column there is a rubber insert, you can put it on any surface, even on the grass, even on a chest of drawers.

The column is heavy! Still, 1.7 – kilograms is a decent weight, to say that it is not much, it is impossible. But this is the reverse side of the speakers, you cannot do with less weight, since there are three speakers on each side. A cord was added for carrying, the same detail that allows you to make the speaker portable.

A full charge takes about six hours. The operating time, depending on the volume, is from 6 to 8 hours, the volume margin is great. The column is perfect for barbecues in nature, in the room the maximum volume is excessive.

The quality of music playback is good, for its class the speaker looks very interesting in sound. There is soft bass, well-defined mids. The top rings a little, but that’s okay for a speaker like this. When the volume is increased, there is no sound distortion. In terms of price / quality ratio, the speaker gives good sound, there is nothing to complain about. In its price class, it stands out precisely for its sound.

The column supports, in addition to SBC and AAC, also the AptX codec, to some it may seem important. But the sound for streaming music is excellent here, no complaints. An interesting feature is the ability to combine two speakers into a stereo pair, they are linked together. Also, a feature is that the speakers can be placed not only horizontally, but also vertically.

On the sides you can see the speakers, during playback they vibrate very interestingly. This is the Punch feature that captivates many.

The column supports the speakerphone mode, you can talk on it, but I don’t think that many will take advantage of this opportunity.

The price of the speaker is 9 rubles, which is a very adequate cost for the capabilities of the speaker and its sound. In terms of price / quality ratio, the Punch speaker looks like an excellent offer on the Russian market, in other countries it is noticeably more expensive. This is a rare case when a Russian distributor introduces a device to the market at a cost lower than in other countries. And yet it is one and the same device, without any differences. I liked the column, it has a peculiar charm and class.
