In the M-series, Samsung can experiment, since such models have limited sales in online channels, are not widely represented and cannot eat off the sales of the main line. As an experiment, the Galaxy M51 was equipped with a large battery with a capacity of 7000 mAh and at the same time balanced across the screen, chipset, and tried to make the device interesting in terms of operating time. And it came out in full measure, the model shows record results, there is not a single comparable device in this parameter. Keeping at the same time quite good cameras for their segment, Samsung has made an interesting device for those who are looking for a long-playing solution. This model simply does not have direct competitors, the operating time is record-breaking in all aspects. But the price is not the smallest, so it makes sense to think about how much the operating time will make you look at this device and whether this is enough. Let’s take a look at the device together.

Design, dimensions, controls

The model is available in two colors – black and white.

The body is made of ordinary plastic, while it was made iridescent and varnished. This is good, as it helps to avoid scratches, marks from hands, they are not visible on the case, including the black model. Scratch resistance is a big plus.

The back panel is rounded, the device fits well in the hand, although the smartphone is wide and heavy. Dimensions – 163.9 x 76.3 x 9,5 mm, weight – 213 grams. This is a male apparatus, which follows from the size.

The layout of the device is typical – at the bottom there is a speaker, as well as a USB Type C connector, 3.5 mm, a microphone. The second microphone is on the top, noise cancellation works fine. On the right side there is a paired volume key and an on / off button. There is a fingerprint sensor in the same key, it works perfectly. Face unlocking is standard, it works perfectly.

On the left side there is a slot for two nanoSIM cards, as well as a memory card, it is not combined!

The speaker is hidden behind a grill above the screen. The device is not protected against water and dust, which is normal for this segment.

The build quality is excellent, there are no complaints about it.

Display

The technical characteristics of the screen are as follows: 6.7 inches, 1080×2400 pixels (20: 9), SuperAMOLED +, 393 ppi, automatic brightness control, AlwaysOn Display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, maximum brightness 420 nits.

The front camera is embedded in the screen.

There is AlwaysOn Display, this is the ability to see a clock or screensaver on the screen, notification icons and quickly switch to applications.

The screen settings are typical, you can change the color settings.

The screen remains readable in the sun, the brightness is enough for any work. The diagonal of the screen is ideal for watching videos, viewing photos, reading texts. This is a versatile smartphone, and the fact that it has such a good display makes it stand out from all the competition. The presence of AMOLED is a huge plus for this segment.

Battery

The smartphone has a built-in 7000 mAh Li-Ion battery, it supports fast charging, and it comes with a 25W charger. There is no wireless charging, but this is normal for this segment.

The officially declared battery performance parameters coincide with what we received in the tests:

• Video playback time at maximum brightness – up to 34 hours;
• Audio playback – up to 182 hours;
• Internet browsing via Wi-Fi – up to 24 hours, LTE – up to 24 hours;
• Talk time in 4G – up to 64 hours.

The charging times are as follows: 15 minutes – 18%, 30 minutes – 34%, 45 minutes – 50%, 60 minutes – 63%, full charging time – 113 minutes. The device supports reverse charging of other devices, it is slow. But in case of emergency, you will receive an extra charge. For example, a fully charged Galaxy M51 can charge the Galaxy Fold2 up to 50% in about five hours.

Look at the operating time of this smartphone.

This is an artificial scenario where YouTube plays non-stop (LTE and Wi-Fi data transfer), in two days, a total of about 30 hours of screen time was obtained. Impressive? Not that word.

On average, with only mobile data, various applications, this device gives 12-14 hours of screen without any savings. Which means even for the most “difficult” subscriber a couple of days of work. For everyone else, this is 5-6 days of work from a single charge. No other device today provides such an operating time, and here it is not only the battery capacity, but a combination of factors.

Memory, chipset, performance

Here is the Snapdragon 730G (8 nm), the chipset is quite productive. Look at the synthetic test results.

The basic version for memory in Russia is 6/128 GB, memory cards up to 512 GB, this is enough for most users of such a device.

Communication capabilities

In the Galaxy M51, dual band Wi-Fi, which is already a big plus, is supported by VHT80, which provides good data transfer speeds. Unlike older models, ANT + is not supported.

Bluetooth 5.0 version, NFC (Google Pay) is present, everything works just fine.

From the point of view of navigation, everything is also very good (GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / Beidou), a cold start on city streets takes 2-3 seconds, the navigation accuracy is excellent, no complaints.

Camera

The camera interface is familiar to other Samsung models, there are no discoveries here. There are Pro mode, AR Emoji and other effects.

Front camera 32 MP (f / 2.2), bokeh effect, various additional effects, no autofocus. Look at an example of a picture, everything is familiar here and at the level of other models.

The main camera module consists of four lenses.

Let’s look at examples of photos and videos, they are incomparable with flagships, but in their price segment everything is not bad, this is a typical quality for models of this level.

Software – features

The model is originally based on Android 10 and OneUI 2.0, that is, this is the latest version of the interface, which in the literal sense can be called one of the best both in terms of flexibility of settings and capabilities, and in other points.

A few words about the multimedia capabilities of the device. It has a built-in radio with the ability to record programs. The headphones act as an antenna.

Standard applications are represented by a calculator, file manager, voice recorder and other applications that are necessary for comfortable work out of the box.

Unlike the older models, there are no Bixby scripts here, this is clearly a marketing division into older and younger models. The function is cool, it’s a pity that it was abandoned in the younger models.

Impressions

The device has a good hold on the network, the radio part is well tuned. At a cost of 30 thousand rubles, this device is different in terms of price / quality ratio, has no analogues for those who want to get the maximum operating time from a single charge. Yes, the smartphone is not the smallest, massive, but you forget about it when you start charging it from time to time. With this device you can completely forget about the need to charge during the day, it just works and works. And, perhaps, this is its biggest advantage.

For those who know how and love to customize their smartphones in order to squeeze the maximum out of the operating time, this model provides ample opportunities. Here you can literally get a couple of days of non-stop work. The model is unique, therefore it will be popular. Alternatively, you can look at the Galaxy A51, which is an extremely popular device, number one on the market among all models. But its battery life cannot be compared with the Galaxy M51, they are comparable in terms of cameras. The choice here may lie in the plane of ergonomics, although the devices are not very different. I would take the Galaxy M51 if I can spend a large amount.
