Positioning
This fall, Huami released a new gadget called Amazfit Band 5. It is a small fitness bracelet with an AMOLED screen, heart rate and blood oxygen measurement functions. Naturally, he has basic workouts: outdoor running, treadmill, walking, yoga and so on.
By the way, as far as I understand, the Band 5 is the first device in the form-factor of a miniature bracelet. Until now, these have been either round smartwatches or square fitness devices such as the coolest Bip series.
In the company itself, the Amazfit Band 5 highlights the following points:
- BioTracker 2… It is a versatile biosensor developed by Huami
- OxygenBeats function… Blood oxygen saturation measurement
- PAI module… It is a physical activity indicator that informs about heart rate, daily physical activity and other parameters.
- Sleep monitoring technology… The technology allows tracking the duration of all phases, including the stages of shallow, deep sleep and the phase of rapid eye movements.
The Amazfit Band 5 is on sale in the official store on Tmall for 3 rubles with delivery from a warehouse in Russia.
Contents of delivery
Here I would like to describe one nuance. The box in which the device was placed is quite ordinary, but now it opens completely illogical. That is, not from above and not from below – from the side! In theory, there is a special valve for which you have to pull, but it came off from me.
I could not capture it in the photo, because the packaging had to be pretty wrinkled in order to look for solutions on the opening method ?
In the kit you will find the device itself, a charging cable, instructions and a warranty card.
Design, usability and controls
The fitness bracelet is made in a classic version: a rectangular plastic gadget placed in a silicone “bath” with a strap. I got a model in black for review, so the Band 5 did not make much of an impression. The upper part is glossy, the lower part is matte. The strap is also silicone.
The design of the fastener is simple, but very convenient: thread it through a loop and fix it with a metal rod in the hole. Made to look like Nike straps. By the way, when I bought Amazfit Bip, I ordered just this type of strap.
It attaches easily, adheres tightly and does not cause discomfort.
The design of the Band 5 is durable, the case is protected from water: you can take a shower, wash your hands, or get caught in the rain. I’m not sure about swimming. Although if the “pool” is indicated in the training program, then why not.
The Amazfit Band 5 sits well on the wrist, if you don’t tighten the strap, you don’t feel the gadget at all. Weighs only 24 grams.
The strap itself is covered with a layer of soft-touch: soft, pleasant to the touch, a little slippery. It gets dirty quickly. Judging by how easily the “body” of the Band 5 is removed from the strap, we can assume that different colors of the bracelets will appear on the same Tmall. Black, green and orange are now available.
Over time, not a single scratch appeared on the screen. But here it is worth understanding that I am extremely careful with the technique, both my own and the test one.
Total: small, with a comfortable strap and excellent ergonomics. For those who care about the measurement result, not the appearance of the device.
Display

Basically, all the data is in front of your eyes in a table. The brightness is adjustable in the settings. It varies over a wide range. The maximum is sufficient even in very bright light. The lowest level is ideal for use, for example, at night before going to bed. In the ZEPP app, you can select the time at which the backlight will dim.
Touch screen, capacitive layer. Handles touches easily, recognizes only one press. There is a touch zone “Home”, swipe from left to right – “Back”.
It is worth warning right away that the information on the display is small. If you have poor eyesight, I recommend looking at another model. The font cannot be enlarged. The logic is ironclad: when purchasing such a small gadget, you shouldn’t count on large notifications.
There is no AOD mode here. But there is a choice of speed of response to raising the hand.
It is also worth considering the display of notifications. The program icon is displayed in the upper left part. Most of the Band 5 knows, so it shows a real pictogram, and not just a plug. Slightly to the left of the creeping line – the user or the name of the application. And below – the text that fits in 7-8 lines of about 12-13 characters in width. Plus – scrolling from top to bottom. All in all, you can read a great comment on the post on Instrgam.
And I also wanted to highlight the ability to select the type of vibration for calls, notifications, alarms, and so on. The ZEPP application has a vibration editor: touch the screen and the program remembers the combination. This is great if you miss notifications because you don’t feel vibration on your hand. Most often this happens on public transport. And with the Amazfit Band 5, you can set a constant vibration for up to 20 seconds. I created a version of “tata tatata tatatata ta ta” for myself.
The vibration strength in the Band 5 is slightly above average, it is felt quite well in a normal environment.

The above is the official data. They came out about the same for me. By turning on notifications and exercising with heart rate measurement turned on for about 2 hours a day, you will get 10-13 days of device operation.
If the Band 5 is used occasionally, for example, for measuring the level of oxygen in the blood, for heart rate, infrequent workouts for 30-40 minutes a day without notifications, then the battery will be discharged by 30% in 7 days. That is, it is quite possible to squeeze out of Amazfit up to 30 days of work.
The device is charged from a special charging cable with a magnetic tip in 2 hours.
Fitness functions, health
To begin with, the Band 5 is not the most sophisticated sports device. Here I mean the number of programs. There will be no boxing, karate, frisbee and the like. Only basic things: running on the street, treadmill, walking, yoga …
It seems to me that most will choose running on the street or some kind of ellipse (here it is called “orbitrek”).
During classes, the following information is displayed:
- Time
- Distance
- Pace
- Calories
- Pulse
Unfortunately, the pulse is located on the second screen, that is, you need to swipe up from the bottom. I usually monitor my heart rate and distance / time.
The measurement accuracy is about the same as that of competitors, nothing unusual. The pulse exactly matches the same Huawei Watch GT 2 for 20 rubles.
About measuring the level of oxygen in the blood. Here I would still recommend purchasing a medical device if you are really concerned about your health. It is one thing to know the heart rate with an error of 5-10 beats, and another thing is deviations in a couple of percent in SpO2. In general, I will say this: you should not get too carried away with both heart rate measurement and SpO2 measurement. If you feel unwell, see your doctor. Although now it is more and more difficult to do it …
The Amazfit Band 5 has stress metering. I don’t really understand its meaning, but the device showed me that out of 100% (where 1% is calm, and 100% is stress), I almost always have a figure around 60%. Apparently, you need to calm down. By the way, for this in the same Band 5 there is an application “Breathing”. Does it help? It’s hard to say, but relaxing for a while.
I’ve already talked about the PAI module in other reviews. In short, it is an indicator of physical activity. It displays the value, and from it you can judge whether it is worth increasing your activity or it is quite sufficient. For example, I have PAI = 23. Therefore, the application on the smartphone invites me to increase it with training. In this case, try running for 5 minutes with a heart rate of more than 158 beats per minute or walking outside for 120 minutes with a heart rate of around 100 beats per minute.
In general, despite the simplicity of the device from the point of view of data analysis, there are a lot of interesting things here. The health monitor includes:
- Automatic heart rate measurement
- Sleep monitoring
- Setting the frequency of data measurement
- Heart rate notifications. Let’s say it shouldn’t exceed 150 beats per minute
- Breathing tracking while you sleep
- Women’s cycles.
That is, if you decide to take care of your health at least at the level of tracking your data using a device, then Amazfit Band 5 provides the widest possibilities. I repeat once again: if you feel unwell, see a doctor.

Small but smart – this is about Amazfit Band 5. Simple in appearance, but rather sophisticated in terms of software. Measures everything and everyone!
Cons: extremely average autonomy.
