I hate the word “unique”, as it is devalued in our world, nevertheless, this is how the S Pen can be described. Over the course of a decade, Samsung has evolved S Pen technology and software, and none of its competitors have come close to replicating these capabilities. Someone says that the S Pen is pampering, but usually this shows only one thing – a person has never used this stylus, does not know its capabilities and does not understand what can be done with it.
For those who are not unaccustomed to the pen, they remember information better when writing down, there are simply no alternatives to the Note line, these are the only smartphones that have a stylus and it is built into the body, that is, always with you. You can make a quick note, draw something, and with very high quality. Handwriting is recognized and turned into plain text that can be sent to anyone.
But also the S Pen is a remote control, you can use it to take pictures, control the camera, including zoom, switch between modes. For business users, the S Pen turns into a tool for demonstrating presentations or editing certain files or pictures. An overview of all the capabilities of the S Pen draws on multi-page text, there is both entertainment, the same coloring that soothes the nerves, and serious areas of application.
In my opinion, buying any Note line smartphone is justified if you plan to use the S Pen and master its capabilities. In other cases, it makes sense to look at similar smartphones from Samsung, where the S Pen is missing, for example, the same S20 Ultra or S20 FE.
Reason # 2. Price-quality ratio
Unlike the Note20 Ultra, they tried to make this device rational, affordable in terms of cost to more people. It has exactly the same S Pen capabilities, but a simpler body, a camera module as on previous flagships, simpler in comparison with the Note20 Ultra. This is a conscious balance between opportunities and cost, which captivates some of the potential buyers, especially those who do not consider the image component the most important, but choose a working tool. For mods there is Ultra, for rational people – Note20. The difference in cost is 20 thousand rubles for the basic versions, which is noticeable for the majority. Also, the basic model has a number of advantages in ergonomics, this is our next item.
Reason number 3. Ergonomics, camera unit, plastic as the main body material
One of the complaints about the Note20, which is heard all the time and everywhere, is dissatisfaction with the fact that the case is made of plastic.
The word “plastic” brings together very different things, today it is a collective name for various materials. It uses plastic reinforced with inserts of other materials (new generation glastic). The case is matte, there are no hand marks on it, the material is both resistant to drops (does not crack) and resists scratches. In practice, this is a very good case, you can wear it without a case! Which is logical, since you can choose the color of the case that interests you. I really like the mint color, it is calm and noticeable at the same time.
The camera unit does not protrude as much here as in the Note20 Ultra, which makes the device very pleasant in everyday life, another reason that you won’t need a cover. The ergonomics of the junior model is slightly better than in the Note20 Ultra, which may bribe someone. And the last thing to say – here is a flat screen without rounding, someone loves just such matrices.
Reason number 4. Life span 3-4-5 years, updates and more
Samsung has announced that key smartphones will receive UI updates and new features for about three years, with older models showing that this is already happening. Smartphones will receive security updates for a longer period, making them safer to use.
Considering the cost of such models, we can say that users will choose them not for one year, but for at least 2-3 years. No performance problems during this time will happen, you will receive new chips more or less constantly. In short, you can be sure that the device will not be deprived of the attention and support of the manufacturer throughout its entire service life.
Reason number 5. DeX mode – turning a smartphone into a full-fledged computer
Another unique feature from Samsung is the DeX mode, in which the interface has been completely redesigned, it is made as close as possible to computers. You can connect to a TV (wire, Wi-Fi – whatever you like, the latter is available on Samsung TVs this and last years), you can also connect a mouse and keyboard. And you can use the smartphone screen as a touchpad plus type text on it.
What does DeX give you? And it gives a lot, first of all, there is no need to carry a computer with you, any room with a TV or monitor, all your files on a smartphone or in the cloud can turn into your workplace.
Reason number 6. Runtime, beat Note20 Ultra
Despite the fact that the Note20 is technically very similar to that of the Note20 Ultra, the device is rather similar to the S20 FE, with a lot of work on the battery in terms of battery life. The cooling system, as in the older model, allows the case to stay cool in all modes. Typically, for two days of work, I get about 7 hours of screen work, most of the time the device is on an LTE connection. No savings in certain aspects, dancing with a tambourine and the like. Those who want to fine-tune their smartphone for their tasks can easily get up to 10 hours of screen time or even more. Two full days of work, which is good.
Reason number 7. Synchronization with Windows, communication with the Microsoft ecosystem
Samsung is actively cooperating with Microsoft, as a result, devices have the ability to automatically log into your Microsoft account, as well as sync data from Samsung branded applications to similar ones from Microsoft. So notes from Samsung Notes automatically go to OneNote, notes go to Outlook. New features are added quarterly, which expand the possibilities of simultaneous work in two environments, making the transition virtually seamless. And this is welcome, especially good for those who are used to working in Windows.

No one should be surprised that a modern smartphone can be connected to other devices, for example, to transfer a picture from your phone to the TV. In Samsung, this mode is called Smart View, and it works great with the company’s TVs, the picture quality is excellent, as well as convenient control. I can’t imagine a modern smartphone without such features that are conveniently implemented. In addition, you can use Smart View to transfer a picture to a computer, for example, when you are shooting a video and want to see exactly the same thing as the camera. This is a new feature that appeared in the latest generation of devices from Samsung (also available in the S7 / S7 + tablets). In notes, you start recording sound, for example, during a lecture, lawyers do this at a hearing or with their client. While recording, you can take notes, hand-write or draw. Subsequently, you can call up the desired moment by simply clicking on a picture or a word, this is a quick transition in the record, a kind of markers. The thing for some professions is very useful and necessary, there are no alternatives. Not the most necessary thing for the majority, but someone will have to take it to the court and will become an urgent need in the future.
Reason number 10. Secure folder – second secret smartphone in memory
Inside the smartphone, you can create a protected folder, in which it is actually possible to set up a second copy of the smartphone. Individual applications, different or the same accounts – whatever you want. You can find this folder only knowing that it exists, you will need a password to enter. The beauty of such a folder is that behind the KNOX system, which cannot be opened from the outside, you can hide all the valuable information. This is another line of defense against intruders, for example, you can place your banking applications in this space. Or corporate email that you don’t want to leave in the main body of your smartphone.
