Positioning
In order to understand the positioning, I propose to describe in a nutshell the series of devices of the Amazfit brand:
- Sport… These include Neo, T-Rex, and so on. Sports watch
- Fashion… These include GTS, GTR and others. This is a beautiful and fashionable watch
- Flagship… These include Nexo, Verge, Amazfit X. As the name implies – the flagship line
- Basic… Entry-level devices of the Amazfit brand. These include all Bip devices, including the new U series
All in all, the Amazfit Bip U is a continuation of the simple yet functional fitness watch. And if the previous gadgets were equipped with transflective screens, the Bip U series is equipped with IPS screens.
One more note. There are two models available, Bip U and Bip U Pro. The latter has a microphone, GPS and magnetometer.
I have a Bip U model on my review, and it costs around 4 rubles. By the way, the older version is only 500 rubles more expensive. So if GPS in your watch is extremely important to you, then choose the model with the Pro prefix. Everything else will be identical.

Graphic Design
Since this model belongs to the budget series, then its appearance is appropriate. The Bip U is a cross between the previous generation Bip and the GTS: the almost square shape of the case is 40.9 x 35.5 x 11 mm, but the glass is convex here.
In my opinion, a strange decision. Usually they try to drown so that the glass is not exposed to external influences.
The device is available in three colors: black, pink and green. In all cases, the front side is black. Of course, the most versatile color is black. The rest are not for everybody. The strap is also in the color of the case.
The body is made of polycarbonate. Durable and practical material, matte, slightly rough to the touch. The bottom is also plastic with a convex zone, with a sensor and backlight lamps.
It makes no sense to talk in more detail about the design: this is an inexpensive watch, but with a decent build.
Elements on the body
On the right side of the case is a mechanical button, familiar to us from other watches from the Amazfit brand. It has hardly changed: it protrudes a few millimeters, the shape is domed, the pressure is firm, the stroke is minimal.
Below are two magnetized contacts to which the charging is connected. Nearby is the sensor and its illumination lamps.
The strap is 20 mm wide. You can easily remove it, install any other suitable one, and thus diversify the look of the watch. On the same AliExpress a dime a dozen of accessories.
The strap is made of silicone. The clasp is classic, with a tongue. The strap is soft and slippery to the touch. The hand sweats a little under it. I would replace it with a Nike analog or buy a cloth strap.
On the hand, the Amazfit Bip U watch sits well, does not shake. For a couple of weeks of active use, I did not feel any discomfort. Let me remind you that the thickness of the device is 11 mm and the weight is only 30 grams.
Protection from water is present here. Take a shower with Bip U. I would not recommend keeping it under water for a long time.
Screen
The previous generation Amazfit Bip was equipped with transflective matrices. This meant that at certain angles in the light, the screen displayed information even better. Moreover, this type of display did not need matrix backlighting. I enjoyed using the Bip itself and its new models with great pleasure.
It seems to me that it would be necessary to continue to develop the theme of transflective screens: to increase screen diagonals, resolution, and improve quality. After all, in this way we get not only a unique product, but an almost infinite working time: on Bip, the working time could reach up to 40 days without recharging.
The characteristics of the Bip U screen are as follows: 1.43 ″, IPS LCD, 302 × 320 pixels, 2.5D curvature, anti-reflective coating. The matrix is very simple, so the contrast drops under certain slopes. Brightness in the light is sufficient, but I would like it a little higher.
The screen is touch-sensitive, supports one touch and swipe movements.
In general, by modern standards, the diagonal of the display is small, however, due to the square shape, information is read better than on a round clock.
Working hours
The built-in battery has a capacity of 230 mAh. A full charge lasts 7-8 days with notifications enabled. If workouts are connected to them, then you should count on 3-4 days. You need to understand that this is a watch with an IPS-matrix, therefore, the autonomy is average.
I am not worried about devices that can last more than three days. During this time, I will definitely put them on charge. People somehow live with Apple Watch, which show 1-2 days of work.
Amazfit Bip U is charged for about 2 hours from a special magnetic charger with a cable. The battery cannot be charged wirelessly.
Operation speed and system
There are no questions in terms of speed. But if we are talking about animation, the number of frames, then the following should be noted: subjectively, here you see at most 10 fps, the animation is periodically jerky.
In general, the watch behaves as usual with respect to almost all similar devices up to 15 rubles. It’s rare that a fitness watch has the smoothest animation and frame rates. All this is because it is necessary to somehow extend the battery life: do 000 fps – the device will be discharged in 30 day, take 1 frames – it will be discharged after 10 days. It’s simple.
It seems to me that it is high time to integrate operating modes in the clock: energy-saving, normal and productive. In the first case, you will get a slideshow, in the second – 10 frames per second, and in the third – 20-30 fps for a pleasant experience. I would prefer the latter option. One way or another, I charge a bunch of gadgets, but it will be nice to deal with the watch. It’s like now in smartphones: 60/90/120 Hz.
Returning to the Amazfit Bip U. A mechanical button on the side activates the screen. Or it can be done with a wave of the hand.
You see the main screen with replaceable watch faces. There are many of them, installed from the ZEPP application.
Swipe from top to bottom – a panel with quick access to adjust the screen brightness, Do Not Disturb mode, alarm and settings.
Swipe from bottom to top – notifications. Very simple. You cannot answer again, there is little information – just a few lines. If the system is familiar with the program, the application icon will be displayed.
Swipes to the right or left are widgets.

I would note an important function here – measuring the amount of oxygen in the blood. That is, when you have an expensive device in front of you, then this is the norm, and when a budget gadget is a nice bonus. The measurement accuracy is typical for this kind of device.
There are a lot of workouts in the watch. Gone are the days when a fitness watch had a maximum of 10 modes. There are more than 50 of them in this watch. However, there is a possibility that it will be like “9999 games in one”.
During training, the screen displays complete information: time, distance, pace, heart rate, cadence, calories and so on. Including a graph of the heart rate.

The watch can track your sleep, can calculate stress, and help you relax with the Breathing app. There are even female cycles.
A few words about vibration. For me, this is almost the main thing in bracelets or watches. In Amazfit Bip U, the vibration is average, but it can be heard even from the next room. That is, you will not feel, but you will definitely hear.
If you compare it with the strength in the old Bip, then, probably, plus or minus the same.
Settings
It is easy to set the screen lock time (up to 15 s), enable or disable the screen on notifications, set the screen to activate when you raise your hand. There is a choice of application when holding the mechanical button for a long time.
Impressions
In short, the Amazfit Bip U is the advanced Bip of the previous generation, only with an IPS screen. Many different features have appeared in them, for example, measuring oxygen in the blood, tracking female cycles, “Breathing” and so on.
Cons:
- Not the best screen. I would like a higher brightness and a better matrix
- Working hours. Probably, for such a gadget 7-8 days is not enough.

Let me remind you that Amazfit Bip U costs about 4 rubles.
Competitors:
- Amazfit Bip S Lite… The price is about 4 rubles. Transflective screen of a new generation, autonomy, but a small and extremely peculiar display.
- Xiaomi mi Watch Lite… Price – 4 500 rubles. Almost a complete analogue of Amazfit, only I did not find an SpO2 measurement there.
There are a dozen more brands of a similar orientation that I do not know at about the same prices. There are also many bracelets with blood oxygen measurement. That is, there are enough competitors, but basically these are all C-brands.
If finances allow you to add 1 – 500 rubles, then take the Huawei Watch Fit. If you need “smart” watches up to 2 rubles, then personally I would definitely buy something from the Amazfit Bip series, for example, Bip U Pro with GPS.
