Positioning

Earlier this year, the JBL brand got wireless earbuds, which are now called TWS. Called Club Pro +. The Club series belongs to the flagship line.

Of course, the main feature of the JBL Club Pro + model is the active “noise reduction”, and it is adaptive – it adjusts to the ambient noise. After installing the application and adding headphones to it, you have ample opportunities to customize the sound: here and Smart Ambient, and TalkThru, and various sound modes that allow you to get the most out of your device. Naturally, the DJ settings and custom equalizer are still there.

By the way, there is a headphone search in the smartphone app. A handy joke if you’ve taken your headphones out of the case and can’t remember where you put them. Another interesting thing: setting up gestures separately for the right and left headphones, choosing a voice assistant and determining the best fit for the JBL Club Pro + in the auricle. And as a bonus – viewing information about the batteries of the case and headphones separately.

The price of JBL Club Pro + is 13 rubles. Not very modest, but cheaper than Samsung and Apple with the same features.

Case appearance

The case is made in a simple style with several chopped corners. The shape is in the form of a slightly flattened cube. In general, the design is classic.

But what pleased me was the quality of the materials. The case is made of very durable plastic, which does not leave not only marks from hands, but also scratches! In general, the body seems to be metal to the touch. I think such armor-piercing cases should be made. And then this eternal story: just put it in your pocket – and the whole body is already scratched. And then the search for a case for a case begins.

There is only one color on sale – dark gray. In the pictures from the official website, it looks like black. But no. In real life, it is closer to dark gray with light gray particles, which gives a slight metallic luster.

The dimensions are small: 50x53x30 mm and the weight is 69 grams. I would like a little less thickness, after all, the case bulges out the pockets of jeans.

Below are the USB-C connector, sync button and battery indicator.

Headphone appearance

The lid of the case opens with a little effort. It is held in place by magnets. The cover has an extreme locking position. Club Pro + does not pass the forward hand open test – the magnets are working too hard.

The lid closes powerfully and with effort. If the dimensions of the case were larger, he could tear off his fingers. Good Roma …

The headphones can be easily removed from the case. You can pull on any element.

The headphones themselves have a somewhat bizarre shape: something like a curved triangle with smoothed corners. Most of the body is made of dark gray semi-glossy plastic, the upper area is light gray plastic approximately matching the color of the case, the logo is chrome-plated.

The earbud looks quite massive, and, as it turned out, weighs about 7 grams. It has a proximity sensor, an operation indicator (it’s not very clear why it was located in the inside) and several microphones. By the way, the case also has two indicators under the lid to recognize the charge of each of the headphones.

The sensors are located on the back. They can be assigned different actions in the JBL HeadPhones application.

Landing in the auricle

Of course, the topic is purely individual, but it is extremely necessary to describe it. I didn’t make friends with the ear pads, which came as standard: I had the impression that the headphones were about to fall out of my ears. Part of the problem was solved by installing larger ear pads. But only partially. All the same, there was a feeling that the headphones were poorly held in the ear canal. If you shake your head sharply, they will eventually fly out. The Tune 125TWS behaves in the same way. It seems to me that the factory uses the same molds. And not the most successful ones.

Is there pressure in the auricle? Not! And this is very good.

About sound

What do we know about the emitter? Only that it has a size of 6.8 mm. That’s not a lot. Modern headphones are equipped with speakers from 10 mm and larger. Frequency response – 10 Hz to 20 kHz. Realistically by ear – from 25 Hz to 17.5 kHz.

The frequency response, in my hearing, is as follows: low frequencies are at about 50 Hz and high frequencies are about 10 kHz – slightly raised, mids are reduced. The end result is a typical “boom cycle” which is suitable for dance music, not bad for RnB, rock and so on. Not the best for classical, popular music with male parts.

The scene is quite wide, the detail is very high. For example, Michael Jackson – Black or white: drums, cymbals, guitar are clearly audible, the voice slightly fades into the background. The sound is assertive, biting, not smeared.

The default setting is cool in my opinion, I like it.

In the application, you can customize your equalizer. And there you already have complete freedom to adjust the frequencies. I raised the deep lows even stronger, removed 100-200 Hz, added 1000 Hz and added a bit more 12 – 000 Hz. The beauty! Well, that’s to my perverse ear.

There are several items in the application settings. The smart sound modes included:

  • normal mode
  • audio mode
  • video mode

I must say right away that I did not hear the difference between them. As for the last item, there is no delay at the first and second selected items.

In ambient sound management:

  • turn on “shumodav”
  • enable Ambient aware
  • turn off “noise reduction” and other presets
  • enable TalkThru

And there is also an item with a switch “Active mode”. I tormented him, but the result was similar to simple switching on of the “noise control”. Surely all this works, but it’s hard for me to catch it by ear.

How effective is noise cancellation? Mostly low humming sounds are suppressed. There is no hum in the subway, but the sound of the clanking of the car is heard. On the street it is the same: the sounds of cars are heard, but the humming ones are muffled. I can’t rate the “shumodav” as extremely effective. For example, recently there was an article about Pamu Quiet on Android.Mobile-Review. The technology worked even better there.

Total: “noise reduction” is average, the sound is excellent, especially if you customize it for yourself!

As a headset

You are heard well, the sound is normal for TWS headphones, the intelligibility is good. Both earbuds have microphones. Switching between them occurs almost instantly: one is put on, the other is put in the case – and the interlocutor almost did not notice it.

Working hours

Each of the headphones was equipped with a 55 mAh battery. This value is close to the maximum among TWS headphones. The case is equipped with a 660 mAh battery.

On average, the headphones last about 5 hours with ANC and about 6.5 hours without ANC. As a headset 3.5 – 4.5 hours.

In the case, the headphones are charged up to 100% in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The case itself – in 2 hours.

Impressions

Frankly, the JBL Club Pro + experience is somewhat blurry. On the one hand, this is a high-quality thing in terms of sound, and on the other, there are noise reduction technologies that did not seem unique to me. The effect is present, but …

Pros:

  • Durable case: no hits, no scratches
  • Great sound: lots of EQ settings, nice bass and treble
  • Working hours
  • Brutal design
  • Powerful passive sound insulation

Neither this nor that:

  • Headset function
  • Average “noise reduction”

Let me remind you that JBL Club Pro + costs 13 rubles.
