Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners has struck a multi-year deal with Netflix. Amblin will release several films a year for streaming.
It is noted that some of the films will be released in the cinema, and some on Netflix. The terms of cooperation between the companies do not imply any restrictions on the genre or budget of the films released, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
At the same time, the new deal between Netflix and Amblin Partners will not affect the cooperation of the latter with Universal – the companies will continue to work on joint projects.
Interestingly, a couple of years ago, Steven Spielberg was opposed to films streaming services (including pictures Netflix), bypassing regular distribution, nominated for an Oscar. Later, the director clarified his position, noting that he just wanted to support cinemas in this way.
