A new monastic settlement in the Romanian Orthodox Church was consecrated on Sunday, thus offering yet another place for men to devote their lives to Christ in asceticism.

The consecration of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God Hermitage in Mestecăniș, Suceava County, was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Calinic of Suceava and Rădăuți with a number of priests and deacons. The service was also attended by a number of believers, the Archdiocese of Suceava reports.

The construction of the hermitage began in 2016, on the initiative of the abbot Hieromonk Valerian. It is under the supervision of the renowned Putna Monastery and currently has two inhabitants.

His Eminence Abp. Calinic consecrated the exterior of the church with the anointing with holy Chrism and the blessing of holy water, sealed the holy altar, and blessed the holy iconostasis.
