New hermitage of renowned Putna Monastery consecrated in Romania

A new monastic settlement in the Romanian Orthodox Church was consecrated on Sunday, thus offering yet another place for men to devote their lives to Christ in asceticism.

The consecration of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God Hermitage in Mestecăniș, Suceava County, was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Calinic of Suceava and Rădăuți with a number of priests and deacons. The service was also attended by a number of believers, the Archdiocese of Suceava reports.

The construction of the hermitage began in 2016, on the initiative of the abbot Hieromonk Valerian. It is under the supervision of the renowned Putna Monastery and currently has two inhabitants.

His Eminence Abp. Calinic consecrated the exterior of the church with the anointing with holy Chrism and the blessing of holy water, sealed the holy altar, and blessed the holy iconostasis.

Following the service, Mr. Ștefan Holicov, who was instrumental in the founding of the hermitage, was awarded the Order of St. John the New of Suceava “as a sign of appreciation for the cultivation of Christian values and confessional activity in Christ and the Church.”

Abbot Valerian, who was elevated to the rank of protosinghel during the service, thanked Abp. Calinic and the visiting clergy for the service and the faithful for their prayers, as well as all who contributed to the building of the hermitage, and for the sacrifice and love they have shown over the years.
