The GeForce RTX 3090 uses relabeled GPUs for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

As you know, the flagship GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card is based on the GA102-300 graphics processor. One of the readers of the German resource HardwareLuxx found out that in some versions of the GeForce RTX 3090, relabeled GA102-250 chips are used as this GPU, which were originally supposed to form the basis for the yet unannounced GeForce RTX 3080 Ti video card.

It should be noted right away that before this case, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti appeared in leaks in various configurations and with different GPUs. To date, we have come across information about at least five different versions of this video card with different sets of CUDA cores and memory, but none of them has yet reached the sale. As the resource points out VideoCardz, by the end of January this year, NVIDIA plans to use the GA102-250 chip as part of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. However, according to the latest rumors and leaks, the aforementioned model will use a chip labeled GA102-225.

Earlier this week, it was reported that NVIDIA had begun re-labeling the already released GA102-250 chips to the GA102-300 for future use as part of the GeForce RTX 3090. This GPU is equipped with the same number of CUDA cores as the original GA102-300 chip for GeForce RTX 3090, however, the video card based on it, according to the manufacturer’s original plans, should have received less video memory.

According to rumors, the January specs of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mentioned the use of 20 GB of video memory. Apparently, in GA102-250, the manufacturer decided to include full support for the 384-bit memory bus, instead of the original 320 bits, and relabel it in GA102-300.

This fact was confirmed after one of the users of the resource HardwareLuxx purchased a reference version of the GeForce RTX 3090 and disassembled the video card for the subsequent installation of the LSS water block. He noticed that the marking of the GA102-250 chip was crossed out by a laser, and a new one was added below – GA102-300.

According to the latest rumors, the announcement of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti based on the GA102-225 with 10 CUDA cores is scheduled for May this year.
