Since Nokia licensed the HMD Global conglomerate to produce smartphones under its brand, the company has tried to release devices on “pure” Android under the Android One program. The latter assumes that the device comes without major add-ons in the system from a third-party manufacturer, and the release of Android updates continues for 2-3 years. This may change soon.

According to Gizmochina with a link to the XDA portal, a vacancy has been posted on HMD Global’s Linkedin account for the position of a user interface designer. His responsibilities will include the development of graphical interface elements (menus, tabs, widgets), creation of layouts and prototypes of the interface, creation of original graphic solutions, as well as research, search and solution of problems. According to the journalists of the XDA Developers publication, this may be a step towards the fact that the company decided to start developing its own graphical shell for smartphones instead of the standard one used in Android.

Apparently, within the framework of the event, which HMD Global plans to hold on April 8, we can be told about the company’s specific plans for the future. It is possible that the management wants to change the development strategy in order to reach a large audience in different segments. At the moment, Nokia devices mainly compete with counterparts from Chinese manufacturers.
