Although the terms of the concluded cross-licensing agreement have not been disclosed, Nokia has specified that Lenovo will make certain payments in its favor. A Nokia spokesman declined to disclose financial details of the deal to Reuters.

“The achieved global agreement makes possible future cooperation between our companies for the benefit of customers around the world.”Said John Mulgrew, director of intellectual property for Lenovo.

The legal battle between Nokia and Lenovo dates back to 2019, when a Finnish company sued a Chinese manufacturer over alleged infringement of 20 patents on video encoding technology. Lawsuits on this matter have been opened in the United States, Brazil and India. Also, six court proceedings were opened in Germany. Last September, a Munich court ruled that Lenovo had violated one of Nokia’s patents by banning the sale of a number of devices and demanding that the Chinese company’s products be withdrawn from retailers. The judgment was upheld by the German Court of Appeal in November of the same year.

In turn, Lenovo filed a lawsuit against Nokia in court in California (USA).
