NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not be able to use winter as a weapon to bring Ukraine to its knees.

As Welt writes, NATO clearly sees that the Kremlin reacts to defeat in the war with great brutality. However, winter will not help Putin’s army.

“With the onset of winter, Moscow began bombing Ukraine’s energy supply to bring the country to its knees. Putin is trying to use winter as a weapon. But he will not succeed,” Stoltenberg said.

The Secretary General noted that NATO highly appreciates Germany’s previous supply of weapons to Ukraine. In particular, the Alliance is convinced that German air defense systems will help protect homes, schools and hospitals from Russian missiles. At the same time, Stoltenberg emphasized that all partners need to increase their support for Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine: forecast for the winter

According to experts, on the eve of winter, Russian troops in Ukraine are forced to reduce the intensity of attacks, but the intensity of hostilities will remain at a high level in the coming months, while the Armed Forces will have the opportunity to liberate new territories.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) predict that the Armed Forces may take advantage of the frozen terrain to move more easily than in the fall.

Due to defeats at the front, Russia began to destroy the Ukrainian energy system. On October 10, 2022, the Russian Federation launched attacks on critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. In just one day, 30% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was damaged.

The occupiers are hitting power stations, hydropower and heat generation facilities. An emergency power outage began across the country.

On November 15, Russia fired 100 missiles into the territory of Ukraine. It was the most massive shelling of Ukraine’s energy system since the beginning of the war.

On November 23, Russia again struck the energy system of Ukraine. The Zaporizhzhia NPP went into full blackout mode. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced that a blackout had begun in the entire energy system of the country.
