Proceedings on the fact of ecocide have been opened, the impact on the environment is being investigated.
At a large poultry factory in Chornobayivka, the vast majority of chickens died during the occupation.
As reported in the Prosecutor General’s Office, in March, as a result of massive shelling by the Russian army in Chornobayivka, one of the largest and most modern local poultry farms was left without electricity. Due to the occupation, the enterprise did not have the opportunity to feed the birds and maintain a sanitary regime, as a result of which the vast majority of chickens died. Before the start of the full-scale invasion, the company had more than 4 million birds.
“In view of the fact that the actions of the representatives of the aggressor countries could have caused bacterial contamination of a large area, the law enforcement officers conducted investigative actions at the enterprise. During the inspection of the territory of the poultry farm, the burial place of the dead bird was discovered – a pit with a depth of about 3 m and an area of 1,880 square meters. In addition, it was found that some of the dead chickens were in chicken coops,” the report says.
The prosecutor’s office informs that during the inspection, samples were taken to find out the impact of this event on the natural environment. Currently, the prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office conduct procedural management in criminal proceedings on the fact of ecocide (Article 441 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation continues.
Occupation and liberation of Chornobayivka
Chornobayivka, a settlement 10 kilometers from Kherson, was captured by Russian invaders at the end of February.
The invaders used the local military airfield as a command post and assembly point for planes and helicopters. It became a target for the Ukrainian military dozens of times, but the enemy placed its equipment there again and again, because of which Chornobayivka became a famous Ukrainian Internet meme.
On November 11, the village was liberated from Russian occupation. During the eight months of Russian occupation, hundreds of people remained in Chornobayivka. As in other settlements captured by the Russians, after the liberation, the facts of war crimes committed by the occupiers against the civilian population are revealed here.
