According to the representative of the GUR, if such a decision was made, it would be suicide both from a military and a political point of view.

As of today, Belarus is not ready to fully participate in a ground operation against Ukraine.

Russia uses this country as a training ground for partially mobilized forces, as well as a base for the supply of weapons, particularly heavy ones, said Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, on the air of the All-Ukrainian telethon.

“The maneuvers that we are seeing – movements, redeployments – are aimed at distracting Ukrainian forces and keeping a certain number of Ukrainian defense forces in the direction of Belarus, so that they cannot be transferred to another direction,” Yusov said.

He emphasized that the global situation has not changed and Belarus remains unprepared to participate in the war.

“Today, Belarus, even with partially mobilized units, is not ready to fully participate in a ground operation. If such a decision were to be made, it would be suicide from both a military and a political point of view. Considering the fact that the most prepared elite Russian units are already destroyed”. on the territory of Ukraine, today the Belarusian army is perhaps even better prepared on average than the Russian one, but their efforts, both in terms of number and other indicators, are not enough to form strike groups,” Yusov said.

The representative of the HUR emphasized that the Ukrainian defense forces are ready for various scenarios, in particular from the Belarusian direction, therefore “there will be no surprises”.

The war in Ukraine: a threat from Belarus

Russia is trying in every possible way to involve the Belarusian army in the war against Ukraine. Currently, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine notes that Belarus may be preparing to participate in the war against Ukraine. The Russian military presence has been increasing in this country since mid-October, and the country’s leadership is taking steps that may indicate preparations to participate in aggression against Ukraine.

According to the advisor of the President’s Office Oleksiy Arestovych, the threat of a second invasion by Belarus is theoretically present, but it may not come to fruition. He adds that there is currently no direct threat from Belarus even from Russian troops.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny recently said that the Russian Federation is preparing 200,000 military personnel for the war against Ukraine. He is convinced that the occupiers will make another attempt to capture Kyiv. However, analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) consider the Russians’ chances of capturing Kyiv unlikely, even if they attack again from the territory of Belarus.

US Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges believes that Russia is unlikely to be able to muster the necessary number of well-trained troops to launch a new offensive in February next year.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Ukraine is aware of the possibility of a new offensive by the Russian Federation in 2023, because the Russians have never given up on this.
