The blogger showed how the graphics in Minecraft changed over 12 years (video)

The game has managed to change a lot from the outside, although it is hard to believe.

Users love Minecraft for more than graphics. The game always had a simple cubic appearance with conditional display of certain objects. And in general, this description of the project is still valid. However, in 12 years of development, the visual component of Minecraft still managed to change a lot. This was proven by the author of the YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits in a recent video.

The blogger showed how the graphics in the game changed from 2009 to 2021. It compared six versions of Minecraft: Pre Classic, Classic, InDev, Official, Bedrock, and Bedrock RTX. The first three were released in 2009, and the next ones in 2011, 2015 and 2021, respectively.

ElAnalistaDeBits specifically compared the same objects among the most similar environment for clarity. The first thing that catches the eye is the saturation of the picture, the quality of the textures and the number of polygons. The number of flowers has increased, and all objects have been improved.

Another important difference is the detailing of the environment. Complex landforms made up of various cubes appeared on randomly generated maps. This makes the graphics in the later versions richer, compared to the early builds of Minecraft.

Separate advantages of Bedrock RTX are also worth noting. Thanks to ray tracing technology, reflections and realistic lighting appeared in the game. However, to see these improvements, you need to have at least a 20-series NVIDIA graphics card.

  • The project quickly gained popularity. And already in 2014, Microsoft bought Persson’s studio Mojang AB and the rights to Minecraft for $2.5 billion.
  • As of mid-2020, Minecraft has sold over 200 million copies, making it the best-selling game in history. The project can now be downloaded on PCs, consoles and smartphones.
