The Orthodox holiday of January 6 is the day of memory of the Reverend Martyr Yevgenia

Eugenia lived in the 3rd century, was the daughter of an Egyptian ruler, received an excellent education and did not want to marry, despite the fact that many rich people asked for her hand.

Once Evgenia read the book Acts of the Apostles, became a Christian, but hid it from her parents. Soon she told the eunuchs Prota and Yakinpha about the Lord, cut her hair and entered the men’s monastery together with them. There the girl performed monastic feats, after the death of the abbot she took his place.

A noble woman tried to seduce Yevgena, but she refused her, for which she was slandered and put in prison. There were also many monks and Christians awaiting execution. Evgenia wanted to save people, declared herself the wife and daughter of the ruler. Then her parents recognized her, all the prisoners were released. After some time, Evgenia gathered all the girls and taught them a pious life, and her mother founded houses where travelers, beggars and the sick were received. Eugenia, Protus, and Iakinthus converted many to Christianity, and were executed under the rule of Gallienus.
