The Russian Federation and Belarus are conducting regular training in preparation for large-scale autumn exercises

In Belarus, on Tuesday, January 31, the joint staff training of the Joint Command of the regional group of troops begins.

As the Ministry of Defense of Belarus reports, during the week representatives of the military departments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus “will work out the issue of joint planning for the use of troops based on the experience of armed conflicts in recent years.”

The topic of the exercise will be decision-making on the use of a regional grouping of troops (forces) in favor of ensuring the military security of the Union State.

“The complex of joint operational training measures is aimed at increasing the compatibility of the military management bodies of the two states and is the next stage of preparation for the joint operational exercise “Shield of the Union – 2023″, which will be held on the territory of the Russian Federation in September 2023,” the message says.

Threat from Belarus

“Belarusian Gayun” previously reported that the joint exercises of the armed forces of Belarus and the Russian Federation will continue at least until the end of January. At the same time, at certain training grounds, training will continue continuously from April 29, 2022.

Part of the military, who undergo training in Belarus, later end up in the war against Ukraine. In particular, according to British intelligence, the day before, the Russian Federation completed the training of the 2nd Guards Motorized Rifle Division in Belarus, which has been held since the fall of 2022, and it is also waiting to be sent to the front.

In autumn, Russia and Belarus are expecting joint exercises “West 2023” and “Shield of the Union 2023”, in connection with which a significant increase in the Russian military presence in the Republic of Belarus is predicted.

Currently, the Ukrainian military and Western experts believe that the repeated invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine from Belarus seems increasingly unlikely. However, against the backdrop of autumn training, the threat of an attack will increase. Analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated that they consider it possible to invade the Russian Federation from the territory of Belarus at this very moment.
