Two Ukrainians, whom the Turkish side considered dead as a result of a series of devastating earthquakes that occurred in the country on February 6, 2023, are alive. They were rescued from the rubble of the house.

“Citizens of Ukraine are alive! Fortunately, according to verified information, two citizens of Ukraine, who were considered dead in the Turkish city of Hatay, were rescued from under the ruins of the building. Praise be to God!” – wrote on Facebook the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar. adding that details will follow.

Earlier, the Turkish side stated that two citizens of Ukraine were probably killed as a result of the earthquake. The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is checking this information.

It is known that diplomats searched for 38 citizens of Ukraine. They are working with Turkish rescue services to find another 19 Ukrainians who have not been contacted since the earthquakes.

Earthquakes in Turkey on February 6

On the morning of February 6, 2023, Turkey and Syria were shaken by a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of more than 7. The first tremors occurred at 4:17 a.m. in southeastern Turkey. After that there were several more powerful earthquakes and dozens of aftershocks.

As of the morning of February 7, it was reported that at least 3,419 people had died and more than 20,500 people had been injured in Turkey. To date, 11,000 buildings have been damaged in Turkey.

At the same time, according to WHO forecasts, the number of people killed as a result of powerful earthquakes in Turkey and Syria may increase fourfold. They emphasized that, considering the scale of the natural disaster, there are reasons to believe that at least 20,000 people will become its victims.

Ukraine sent a group of rescuers and equipment to Turkey to overcome the consequences of the earthquake.
