On February 10, Natalia Havrylytsia announced that she was resigning from the post of Prime Minister of Moldova.

According to NewsMaker, she announced this at a briefing. The head of the government listed the achievements of her Cabinet as Moldova’s acquisition of the status of a candidate for EU membership and noted that her work fell on a period of crisis.

“After a year and a half in office, I am announcing my resignation. … I am leaving with a sense of fulfilled duty and a calm heart. Dear citizens, I urge you to remain in solidarity to turn Moldova into a European state,” she emphasized.

Havrylytsia also stated that her government did not receive adequate support.

“If the government of Moldova had as much support at home as it does in the EU, in Brussels, we would have achieved more,” the prime minister said.

President Maia Sandu reported that she took into account the resignation of the prime minister, thanked the head of government for his work. Sandu promised to propose a candidate for this position after consultations with parliamentary factions.

Updated (3:55 p.m.): Sandu has nominated her security adviser, Dorin Rechan, to be prime minister. He became Sandu’s advisor a year ago. Previously (from 2012 to 2015), Recan headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova, during the same period Sandu was the Minister of Education.

Government of Natalia Havrylitsa

President Maia Sandu appointed Natalya Havrylitsa as Prime Minister on July 30, 2021. The government headed by Havrylitsa was sworn in on August 6, 2021. During this time, the Cabinet of Ministers expanded significantly – there were 9 ministers earlier, now there are 13.

Previously, Havrylytsia held the position of Minister of Finance (from June 8, 2019 to November 14, 2019) in the government of Maya Sandu. Havrylica is also the vice-president of the “Action and Solidarity” party, which was founded by Sandu, and was a member of the Parliament of Moldova of the 11th convocation.
