Electricity consumption in Ukraine has decreased, there is no capacity deficit. hydroelectric power plants are working intensively, which have a lot of resources due to a flood uncharacteristic for winter.

As the press service of NEC “Ukrenergo” reports in Telegram, a power unit at one of the power plants has been taken out for emergency repairs. At the same time, one of the power units at another power plant was put into operation after repair.

“Consumption has slightly decreased compared to the beginning of the week. There is no capacity deficit in the power system for the fourth day in a row and it is not yet forecast today. Power plants produce enough electricity to cover consumption,” the report said.

Thanks to favorable weather, generation from renewable energy sources is increasing. The import of electricity from Slovakia is also ongoing.

“Due to the absence of a capacity deficit, consumption limits have not been reached in the regions today. If consumption increases, blackouts may be applied. Measurements of actual consumption in the regions of Ukraine are carried out according to the schedule in the Sumy and Zhytomyr regions. Measurements in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions have been postponed to February 21.” – informed the press service.

The energy company added that there are still minor network restrictions in Odesa due to damaged infrastructure, and hourly outage schedules are in place to avoid equipment overload.

The situation in the energy system of Ukraine

The first missile attack on the objects of critical infrastructure of Ukraine was on October 10, 2022. From that moment, an emergency power outage began across the country.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian invaders due to missile and drone attacks, as well as due to the occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, Ukraine has lost 44% of its nuclear generation and three-quarters of its TPP capacity.
