On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, fighter jets of the United States Air Force intercepted four Russian military aircraft in the Alaska region. We are talking about Tu-95, Su-30 and Su-35.
According to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the Russian planes remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace.
“Such Russian activity near North American airspace occurs regularly and is not considered a threat, nor is it considered provocative. The NORAD command anticipated this Russian activity and, as a result of our planning, were ready to intercept it,” the NORAD Command emphasized.
A similar incident happened the day before. On February 13, US fighter jets intercepted four Russian military aircraft in the air defense identification zone near Alaska. Tu-95 was among them.
Interception of Russian planes
On February 14, 2023, two Dutch F-35 fighter jets intercepted a group of three Russian warplanes near Poland. It is about the Russian Il-20M, which was accompanied by two Su-27s.
In October 2022, American F-16 fighters detected, tracked, identified and intercepted two Russian Tu-95 Bear-H bombers near Alaska. The Russian Air Force entered and operated in the detection zone of the US Air Defense Forces.
