Repairs to energy facilities damaged by enemy attacks may take many months, and some regions will sometimes be without electricity again.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated this at a government meeting, noting that the enemy’s attacks on critical infrastructure facilities do not stop and “it is too early to relax.”

“For almost a week now, there have been no blackouts throughout Ukraine. Four months of terror, thousands of missiles and drones, Russia has spent billions of dollars, but it is losing again, it is again unable to break Ukraine on the energy front,” he said.

“Despite the fact that there is no shortage of electricity in the system, the repairs of damaged equipment will take many months. It should be understood that in these cases, individual regions will return to blackouts from time to time,” the prime minister warned.

The situation in the energy system of Ukraine

The first missile attack on the objects of critical infrastructure of Ukraine was on October 10, 2022. From that moment, an emergency power outage began across the country.

The enemy does not stop missile attacks on the energy system of Ukraine. On February 10, the Russian occupiers carried out the 14th missile attack on the objects of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. That day they fired more than 100 rockets into Ukraine.

More than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are still inaccessible to the Ukrainian energy system and are under the control of the enemy. This is the largest in Ukraine and Europe: Zaporizhzhia NPP, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vugleghirskaya TPP, Kakhovskaya HPP.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian invaders due to missile and drone attacks, as well as due to the occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, Ukraine has lost 44% of its nuclear generation and three-quarters of its TPP capacity.
