Pensions during the war
After the full-scale invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine due to the indexation of pensions carried out on March 1, 2022, about 10 million recipients received increased payments, and the average increase was 380 hryvnias.
There was no planned indexation of pensions in April, but pensions were transferred to working pensioners. There are approximately 2.5 million of them in Ukraine.
The pension was increased for persons who had at least 24 months of insurance experience from the time of pension appointment. The recalculation took place automatically. The amount of the allowance depended on the salary received and the number of years of service.
The allowances themselves were paid only in July, when the Pension Fund received the seniority data. That is, in fact, pensions increased in the summer, but the recalculation took place in April.
From October 1, 2022, the minimum pension by age for unemployed Ukrainians was recalculated against the background of an increase in the minimum wage from 6.5 to 6.7 thousand hryvnias.
Also, from October 1, 2022, the minimum wage in Ukraine has increased from UAH 6.5 to UAH 6.7 thousand.
In turn, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukrainians may be left without salaries and pensions if the European Union stops funding Ukraine within the framework of the promised 9 billion euros.
Indexation of pensions in the amount of 5.4% is planned in March 2023.
On February 11, 2023, the Ministry of Social Policy was informed when pensions will be indexed in Ukraine.
On February 17, 2023, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that in March of this year, the pensions of Ukrainians will be indexed and will increase by 20%. Shmyhal also stated that in 2023, elderly Ukrainians will continue to receive all supplements to old-age pensions.
