NHS West Sussex CCG spent £3,000 on a Chelsea FC season ticket, National Trust membership, and a Merlin Pass giving entry to theme parks such as Chessington World of Adventures and Alton Towers, in order to support mental health.
It also booked a beach hut and dinner at Chichester Park Hotel for £313, saying the plan would support mental and emotional health and wellbeing.
The same CCG bought a patient Amazon Prime membership, allowing free deliveries and a paid TV subscription, on the grounds it would alleviate isolation and help mental and emotional wellbeing. It also funded £279 on garden landscaping in order to create a “comfortable space” for mental and emotional wellbeing.
NHS East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG spent £300 on a PlayStation 4 games console and games, saying it could bring an improvement in the patient’s mental health.
NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG spent £4,753 on a summer house, in which to house an £800 hot tub for one patient, in order to aid mobility.
Thousands more was spent on pilates classes, horse riding and cinema tickets, the investigation by the TaxPayers’ Alliance found.
