According to Chinese sources, the largest contract manufacturer of semiconductors in China, SMIC, has raised prices for all products since April 1. Following SMIC, the company’s customers began to send messages about the increase in chip prices. This is due to the global shortage of semiconductors, which will affect the cost of many, many products around the world.
Other sources report that SMIC began to raise order prices as early as March. The degree of enhancement varied from client to client and depending on the release of chips on 200mm or 300mm wafers. In general, prices rose in the range of 15% to 30%. It is not specified how much the prices will rise from April 1 in excess of the already raised levels.
At the same time, the company left the old prices for orders that are already in production, but increased the prices for all orders, even placed earlier, if work on them has not yet begun. Moreover, the price will be increased even if the order is partially or fully paid.
Business methods are getting more and more interesting. Nevertheless, SMIC held out for almost two months and did not raise prices, although many semiconductor manufacturers began to raise prices back in January this year.
