The Directors Guild of Canada, representing the interests of more than 5,5 film professionals, on its official website revealed details of the production of the HBO series based on the original The Last of Us.
As it became known, the pre-production of the show began on March 15 of this year and will last three and a half months – until July 2. Three days after this date, July 5, production of the adaptation is expected to start.
The shooting of The Last of Us series, according to the Guild, will take place in the Canadian city of Calgary, located in the province of Alberta in the south of the country, and will last until June 8, 2022.
The date and even the timing of the premiere of the HBO show based on The Last of Us is not yet available, but judging by the information about the duration of filming, the creators of the adaptation will have nothing to please fans of the game before the second half of 2022.
Recall that the HBO series was based on the events of the original The Last of Us, however, the creators of the show will not literally retell the original source: the viewers will have an expanded and augmented version of the plot.
Previously, the actors were approved for the main roles: the star of “The Mandalorian” Pedro Pascal will be reincarnated as the smuggler Joel, and Ellie will be played by Bella Ramsey, who became famous thanks to “Game of Thrones”.
The series will be written by Craig Mazin, executive produced by Neil Druckmann, composer by Gustavo Santaolalla, and the first episode directed by Cantemir Balagov.
