Samsung is working hard to win the hearts of iPhone owners and lure them over to the side of their smartphones. The company has launched a new website called iTest, which allows iPhone users to simulate the One UI through a web app.
When visiting the iTest website, the user will be prompted to add a web app to the iPhone home screen. After that, it will be possible to launch it like any other application and work a little with the interface of the proprietary Android shell Samsung One UI. According to the company, it wants to allow users of Apple devices to experience the capabilities of the Galaxy smartphone interface and demonstrate that there is nothing wrong with switching to another platform.
The web app reproduces the Android experience with the One UI shell pretty well, albeit with a number of limitations. However, users can browse the Galaxy Store, use the Samsung Camera app, and explore a range of other software features. Samsung cannot be blamed for its lack of a sense of humor: upon launching the Galaxy Store, users will immediately see a banner ad for the popular Fortnite game that is not available on the App Store.
As they work with iTest, users will receive a variety of simulated notifications that reveal interesting shell interactions. In addition, Samsung is using the app as an opportunity to promote its products such as the Galaxy Buds Pro and Live headphones and the Galaxy Watch 3.
While the overall level of One UI’s modeling is impressive, many features are not available due to technical limitations for web applications. For example, when a user tries to open the Popular Applications folder, only a notification appears that reads: “Don’t worry, all your favorite apps are available. Because let’s be honest, most of them are Google products and we are good friends. “
It is noted that Samsung currently advertises iTest only in New Zealand, although the application is available worldwide. It won’t be surprising if Samsung makes it part of a global marketing campaign soon. Samsung’s iTest comes after Apple announced in January that the launch of the iPhone 12 series has led to an increase in users switching from Android to iOS. So now Samsung is striking back.
