The Chinese company Geely plans to launch an electric long-haul tractor, with the Tesla Semi as a key competitor. Journalist Greg Cable posted the first pictures of the novelty on his Twitter. They were reportedly taken from one of Geely’s suppliers.

The truck will premiere before the end of this year. Its name is still unknown, at the moment the car appears under the code designation AD21. At the same time, it is noted that the machine was developed taking into account the requirements of European customers.

The tractor will receive a futuristic design and very unusual headlights, which are vertical glowing lines. One of the main features of the truck should be a streamlined design, which, judging by the pictures, affects not only the cab, but also the rear. Judging by the renders, it should be assumed that the AD21 will have a relatively low drag coefficient.

Special panels covering the wheels are designed to improve aerodynamics and thus increase the truck’s range (it is expected that it will be able to travel at least 650-800 km on a single charge). As a nice bonus, the AD21 will receive a full sleeper cab.

In addition, the AD21 will support hot swappable batteries, which means truck operators in China will be able to take advantage of Geely Technology Group’s battery swap stations to keep the vehicle from idle while charging between points.

The AD21 is likely to use a multi-engine powerplant. Tesla Semi, for example, has four electrical modules. But in general, all the technical characteristics of the new truck are kept secret. According to preliminary data, its competitor from Tesla has a cruising range of up to 1000 kilometers without recharging. According to Elon Musk, the company will achieve such indicators thanks to upgraded batteries and advanced technologies.

The unveiled new Chinese truck will be the flagship of the Farizon brand, which already includes several electric models, as well as the M100 tractor, which uses methyl alcohol as fuel. The engine displacement is 12,54 liters, and the unit produces 460 horsepower and complies with the Euro-6 environmental class.
