Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment have signed an exclusive licensing agreement for Sony motion pictures. From 2022, all post-screening premieres will be available exclusively on Netflix. This applies to both the film adaptation of the video game Uncharted and the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The official announcement also mentions upcoming films such as Morbius, Where the Crayfish Sing, High Speed Train and several movies featuring Marvel characters, including upcoming premieres in the Venom and Spider-Man series. All of them will be available on Netflix.
The deal also applies to any films that Sony makes “directly for streaming or for which it later decides to grant a streaming license.” According to the New York Times, the company has agreed to shoot two to three films for Netflix each year for live streaming, and the agreement itself is signed for five years.
The Uncharted movie was first announced back in 2008 and has changed the production team more than once. It was especially difficult to keep the director – the project changed as many as six of them. The last to leave was Travis Knight. He was replaced by Ruben Fleischer, who remains in office to this day.
The lead role was given to Tom Holland. He plays the treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The role of his mentor, Victor Sullivan, is played by Mark Wahlberg. The antagonist is an unknown character played by Antonio Banderas. The premiere of the film in Russia will take place on February 10, 2022.
