A modder under the pseudonym Silent (aka CookiePLMonster) discovered a full-fledged version of the fighting game Virtua Fighter 6: Final Showdown in Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Yakuza 5: The Song of Life for PC.
During its existence, the Yakuza series managed to “shelter” two parts of Virtua Fighter, including the fifth, but until recently it was believed that we were only talking about mini-games.
Silent, by manipulating the code, was able to unlock the whole version of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and even created a plug-in to launch a full-fledged fighting game – it is available in Sega’s in-game arcade machines.
The discovered build of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is based on the Xbox 360 version and even contains Xbox Live references in the menu. Unlike the console ports, this edition also has a workable exit button.
However, it was not without a fly in the ointment: in this iteration of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, the save system does not work, the English text does not fit into the established frames, and the pause option does not function quite adequately.
Silent is currently working to isolate Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown from the listed Yakuza games. The first successes were not long in coming: the fighting game is already working, although so far without sound.
Virtua Fighter 5 debuted in July 2006 on arcade machines in Japan and made its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360 a year later. The 2012 Console Final Showdown edition contains additional costumes and animations for the fighters.
