Find the serial number of a Windows computer

In this guide, we will look at various ways to find the serial number of your computer.

The serial number allows the manufacturer to identify the product and provide additional information about it. The serial number is often written as SN (S / N), Serial, Serial Number, it is unique for each device.

  Find the serial number on the device itself.

The first way to find the serial number of your device: if you have a laptop, turn it over, the serial number should be written below, if it is not there, pull out the battery, most likely it is written there. If you have a stationary computer, the serial computer is often located on the side of the system unit.

   Find the serial number using the command line.

1. Open a command line: one of the startup methods that works in each version of Winodws, in the search bar or in the run menu write cmd then press Enter.

2. In the command line that opens, enter the command wmic bios get serialnumber and press Enter. As a result, you will see the serial number of your computer.

Alternatively, you can enter the command wmic csproduct get identifyingnumber then press Enter, this command will also display the serial of your device.

  Find Serial Number Using PowerShell

1. Open PowerShell: in the search bar, write PowerShell and press Enter.

2. Enter the command Get-WmiObject win32_bios | Format-List SerialNumber or gwmi win32_bios | fl SerialNumber then press Enter. Both commands will show you the serial number of your device.

Find Serial Number in BIOS

To enter the BIOS, you must first turn off the computer, then turn it on, but immediately after turning it on, press the button to enter the BIOS. On different computers, the buttons for entering may be different, on some, to enter the BIOS, you need to press the Del key when turning on the computer, on others – the F10 key. If you do not know which button to press to enter the BIOS on your device, see the instructions “How to enter the BIOS and choose to boot from a USB flash drive” and try the suggested options.

When you enter the BIOS, look at the Main or System Infomation tab, there will be the serial number of your device.
