When you delete a volume, free disk space appears instead, and you can use it to expand another volume or create a new one. Before deleting a volume, it is recommended to review all its contents and, if there is something necessary, copy it to another disk.
Delete volume in disk management
1. Open disk management: one of the ways is to right-click on the Start menu and select Disk Management from the menu that opens (or type diskmgmt.msc in the search bar and press Enter).
2. Right-click on the volume you want to delete and select “Delete Volume”.
3. “Deleting a volume will destroy all data on that volume. Please back up any data you want to keep before deleting. Do you want to continue? ”, Click“ Yes ”.
Deleting a volume at the command line
1. Open a command prompt as administrator: one way is to right-click on the Start menu and select Command Prompt (administrator).
2. Enter the command Diskpart and press Enter => type command list volume and press the Enter key. Pay attention to the volume number you want to delete. For example, we need to remove the F drive, after entering the list volume command, we saw that this is “Volume 4”.
3. Enter the command select volume no. and press the Enter key (No. should be replaced with the number of the volume you want to delete). In our example, the volume number 4, so the command will look like this select volume 4
4. Enter the delete volume and press the Enter key.
When it says “The volume has been deleted successfully” you can close the command line.
Delete volume in PowerShell
1.Open PowerShell as administrator: one of the ways is to write PowerShell in the search bar, right-click on the result found and select “Run as administrator”.
2.Enter the command Get-Partition and press the Enter key. A list of volumes will open, remember the letter of the volume you want to delete.
3. Enter the command Remove-Partition -DriveLetter “volume letter” and press Enter (replace “Volume letter” with the letter of the volume you want to delete). For example, we need to delete a volume F, then the command will look like this Remove-Partition -DriveLetter “F”
You will be asked “Do you really want to perform this action?”, Press y on the keyboard and Enter to confirm the deletion of the volume.
