Today we will look at how to identify the file system of a disk in Windows 10 in various ways.
Windows 10 supports formatting a drive using the FAT, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, and ReFS file systems.
Determine the file system of the disk in Explorer
1. Open “Explorer”: by left-clicking on the shortcut in the taskbar, or by right-clicking on the “Start” menu and selecting it from the menu that opens, you can also just press the Win + E keys.
2. Right-click on the drive whose file system you want to know and select Properties.
3. In the “General” tab, you will find the file system of the selected disk.
Define the file system of a disk in disk management
1. Open Disk Management: One way is to right-click on the Start menu and select Disk Management (or type diskmgmt.msc in the search bar and press Enter).
2. A file system will be written on top of each disk.
Determine the disk file system at the command line
1. Open a command prompt: one way is to right-click on the Start menu and select Command Prompt (administrator).
2. Enter the command Diskpart and press the Enter key.
3. Enter the command List volume and press the Enter key. In the list that opens, opposite each disk, you will see its file system.
Determine the file system of a drive in PowerShell
1.Open PowerShell as administrator: one of the ways is to write PowerShell in the search bar, right-click on the found tool and select “Run as administrator”.
2. Enter the command get-volume and press the Enter key. In the list that appears, opposite each disk, its file system will be written.
That’s all for today, if you know other methods – write in the comments! Good luck ?
