Game DVR is a feature of the Xbox application that allows you to use the game bar to record and stream games, as well as take screenshots in Windows 10. In today’s article, we will look at two ways to disable the game bar and game DVR in Windows 10.
Disable Game DVR and Game Bar in Group Policies
This method works in Windows Pro, Enterprise or Education, if you have a home version of Windows, go to the second method.
1. Open Group Policies: in the search bar or in the Run menu (run by pressing Win + R) enter gpedit.msc and press the Enter key.
2. Open “Computer Configuration” => Administrative Templates => Windows Components => Recording and Streaming Windows Games => in the right column open “Enables or disables recording and broadcasting Windows games” => put a dot in front of “Disabled” and click “OK”. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
If you want to re-enable Game DVR and Game Bar => follow the instructions above, but instead of “Disabled” put a dot next to “Enabled” or “Not Configured”.
Disable Game DVR and Game Bar in Registry Editor
This method works in all editions of Windows. It is recommended that you create a system restore point before editing the registry.
1. Open the registry editor: in the search bar or in the run menu (run by pressing the Win + R keys) enter the command regedit and press the Enter key.
2. Follow the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows click on the Windows section with the right mouse button => “New” => “Section” => name the new section GameDVR
3. Click on the section GameDVR right-click, select “New” => DWORD Parameter (32 bit) => name the new parameter AllowgameDVR
4. Open the created parameter and check that the “Value” field contains 0.
If you want to enable Game DVR and Game Bar – delete the created AllowgameDVR parameter.
