If you do not want to see the Homegroup in the left pane of Explorer, read today’s instructions, in which we will look at a couple of ways to remove a homegroup from Explorer.
Consider two ways, one if you do not want your computer to be in the homegroup and the second – you want the computer to remain in the homegroup, but so that the homegroup disappears in Explorer. These instructions work on all versions of Windows.
Disable Homegroup and remove it from File Explorer using services.
1.If your computer is in a home group and you no longer need it, use the instructions and leave the group.
2.In the search bar or in the execute menu (execute is called by the Win + R keys), write the command services.msc and press Enter.
3.Find “Homegroup provider” in the list => open this service by double-clicking the left mouse button;
4. Click “Stop” and in the “Startup type” field select “Disabled” => click “OK”.
5.Find “Homegroup Listener” in the list => open this service => if the service is running, do the same as in the 4th step (stop, disabled).
That’s it, now when you go to the explorer, you won’t see the home group in the left panel!
Remove a homegroup from Explorer without leaving it using the registry editor.
If you don’t want to leave your homegroup, but just want to remove it from the explorer:
1.Before editing the registry, I recommend creating a system restore point. Open the registry editor: in the search bar or in the execute menu (execute is called by the Win + R keys) write regedit and press Enter;
2.In the left pane, go to the section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Classes CLSID {B4FB3F98-C1EA-428d-A78A-D1F5659CBA93}
3.We need to create the Dword parameter in the {B4FB3F98-C1EA-428d-A78A-D1F5659CBA93} section, but you most likely do not have permission to do this. Therefore, first using the previously written instructions, give yourself permission to edit this section.
4.When the permissions are set, click on the {B4FB3F98-C1EA-428d-A78A-D1F5659CBA93} section with the right mouse button and select “New” => Parameter Dword (32 bits) => name it System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree then close the registry editor. Now there will be no homegroup in the explorer.
That’s all for today, if you know other methods or you have additions – write comments! Good luck ?
