Group Policy is a powerful tool for managing your computer. It can be used to allow only certain programs to run, disable automatic Windows updates, hide personal information on the login screen, and much more. But what if you want to configure Group Policy for other users on your computer? We will talk about this in today’s article. One drawback in group policies is that they are not available to users of home versions of Windows.
Group policies are divided into: “Computer configuration” – contain rules that apply regardless of which user logged on to the system (that is, for all users of this computer); and “User Configuration” – contains rules that apply to specific users. If you run group policies under your user, then all settings will apply to him, and you need to configure policies for other computer users. For this we will use the Microsoft Management Console.
In the search bar, enter the command mmc.exe (or in the run menu, enter this command and press Enter)
The “User Account Control” window will open – click “OK”
Next, you need to add a new snap-in to the console for editing group policies. Click on “File” in the upper left corner and in the menu that opens, select “Add or remove snap-in”
On the left side in the “Snapshots” column, select “Group Policy Object Editor” and click “Add”
Now you need to select the object whose group policies you want to change. You can have a different computer, or the same computer but different users. Click “Review”
If you want to manage the group policies of another computer – you need to make changes in the first tab, if by other users on the same computer – go to the “Users” tab and select the user whose group policies you want to change. You can also select a user group, for example, if other computer users are not administrators, then the choice must be made “Not administrators” and click “OK”. You can add snap-ins to manage group policies of other users, and you can add them as much as you want.
in the next window click “Finish”
Click “OK”
In the main window of the console, you will see the added snap-in, to save it and open it as needed – go to “File” and select “Save As”. Come up with names for this console, and also choose a location to save (if you do not change the location, then you need to start the console as at the beginning, then go to the “file” and select the necessary snap-in from the menu; and if you select, for example, save to the desktop, then a shortcut will appear, launching which you will always see the necessary snap-in).
That’s all, now every time you want to change group policies for specific users – open the console saved in the previous paragraph and change the group policies. They will change only for the group that you specified when following this instruction.
To change group policies for everyone – then run group policies in the usual way. That’s all for today, if there are additions, write comments! Good luck ?
