Camilla thinks it would be ‘rude’ to the Queen to talk about future coronation

But palace sources said she “has not ever sought” the title and would not take part in discussions over a future coronation.

One said there were now “no further questions” about the Duchess’ role to settle and insisted details reported about the crown she would wear for a future coronation were “jumping ahead too quickly”.

“It would be rude,” a source said.

Others suggested there was a sense of relief that the debate over the Duchess’ future title is now “done and dusted”.

Neither the Duke of Cambridge or Duke of Sussex have commented on public confirmation of their step-mother’s future title. Prince William is said to be “fine with it”.

The Duchess is likely to eventually be made a “Counsellor of State”. A source confirmed the matter remains a live issue under discussion.

The role, which allows counsellors to carry out limited constitutional duties if the monarch is incapacitated, is currently held by Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.

The late Duke of Edinburgh also held the position, with the Duchess now widely tipped to be given similar authority.

The Duchess is not taking an active role in planning the Prince of Wales’ eventual coronation, with a committee already chaired by the Earl Marshal.

While the Duke of Edinburgh took personal control of planning the Queen’s coronation at her request, the Duchess has not taken a similar position.

The Counsellor of State role was thrown into the spotlight this week after the Prince of Wales tested positive for Covid-19 and the Duke of Cambridge was briefly overseas.

The Queen, who is triple vaccinated against coronavirus, is understood to still be showing no symptoms of coronavirus after seeing the Prince of Wales on Tuesday.

Next week, the Queen intends to undertake numerous official engagements, including holding audiences.

Most, if not all, will be virtual, meaning she can continue to perform her duties from Windsor Castle regardless of whether she tests positive for Covid-19, as long as she feels well enough.

This week, the Duchess of Cornwall plans to attend several public engagements, while the Prince of Wales swaps in-person meetings for video calls.
