Lithuania will transfer ammunition for 155 mm artillery to Ukraine, and a contract with manufacturers of winter clothing for the Ukrainian military will be executed within a month.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas said that Lithuania’s support to Ukraine and its citizens is currently estimated at more than 640 million euros. At the same time, 36% of this amount, or 232 million euros, goes to support the military.
“Regarding the nearest military support, it has already been decided – ammunition will be transferred for the 155-mm artillery, which is desperately needed at the front. The Defense Resources Agency of the Ministry of Defense has concluded contracts with manufacturers to restore these stocks. There will be more support, but we cannot announce everything,” said the Lithuanian . minister.
According to him, the contract with manufacturers of winter clothing for the Armed Forces will be fulfilled within a month. The Minister of Defense of Lithuania also announced the signing of contracts for 2023 with Lithuanian companies engaged in the production of military equipment needed by Ukraine.
“Lithuania will also contribute to the international fund for financing heavy armored vehicles, their production or modernization and acquisition. So, if anything, there will be tanks handed over to Ukrainians at our expense,” added Anusauskas.
The Minister also noted that Lithuania will expand military training courses for Ukrainian soldiers to 1,500 people.
Military aid to Ukraine: Lithuania’s participation
In mid-November 2022, Lithuania delivered an additional batch of M113 tracked armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. It is about 12 units.
Previously, the Lithuanians raised money for the purchase of a marine drone for Ukraine. They also finished fundraising for a second drone and started donating on a third.
In addition, Lithuania repaired Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery installations damaged during military operations for Ukraine. They were handed over to Ukraine by Germany.
