After disassembly, the monument will be moved to a storage place before arranging the thematic area.
In Odesa, the monument to commander Oleksandr Suvorov is planned to be moved to Savytskyi Park. They want to dismantle the monument, which was installed at the beginning of Dobrovolsky Avenue in the Suvorovsky district of the city, and move it to a special thematic area.
The draft decision, approved by the executive committee of the Odesa City Council, states that before the construction of this thematic area in Savitskyi Park, the monument will be moved to a temporary storage location after dismantling – to the warehouse territory of the utility company “Service Center”.
The sculptural composition is planned to be dismantled, taking into account the clarifications of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance regarding the procedures for dismantling monuments to communist and Russian figures active today, etc. In addition, the executive committee refers to the recommendations of the expert council of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on issues of overcoming the consequences of Russification and totalitarianism regarding the deprivation of the public space of Odesa with markers of Russification. It is assumed that the issue will be considered at the next session of the city council.
Derussification in Ukraine
Across the country, streets that used to bear the names of Russians are being actively renamed. As part of de-Russification, monuments to the figures of the Russian Federation are dismantled.
Thus, another street was de-Russified in Kyiv, which was previously named in honor of the Russian writer Ilya Ehrenburg. It was renamed in honor of the Ukrainian singer, People’s Artist of Ukraine Lilia Lobanova.
A monument to Pushkin was dismantled in Kharkiv. The busts can be placed in a museum or moved to another space in Kharkiv.
