According to forecaster Ihor Kibalchich, the second half of December in Ukraine will be very warm.

This year, the weather in December in Ukraine is expected to be changeable, with little snow cover and alternating frosts and thaws. The first half of the month will be cold and dry, and the second – with abnormal heat and precipitation. Weather forecaster Ihor Kibalchich told about this, “Meteoprog” reports.

The forecaster explained that the first half of December will be under the influence of a slow-moving anticyclone of arctic origin. Atmospheric pressure will exceed the norm by 6-10 millimeters of mercury. Along with the eastern winds, cold and dry continental air will begin to reach us. The temperature background will gradually decrease to -8…-3 °C at night and to -5…0 °C during the day in the first half of December.

“Gradually, by the end of the first decade and the beginning of the second decade of the month, the air will cool down even more – at night the values ​​are expected to be within the range of -14…-8°С, during the day -8…-2°С. It will be somewhat warmer in the southern part, in Crimea and Transcarpathia,” says the forecaster.

The onset of frost in most regions will occur on bare ground, and no precipitation is expected in the next 2 weeks. Snow, sleet, and sometimes rain are expected only in the extreme south and west.

However, from approximately December 14-16, the synoptic processes over Europe will change significantly.

“The amount of cloudiness will increase significantly and the probability of precipitation will increase, mainly in the mixed phase (snow, rain, fog). It is likely that the second half of December will be unusually warm in Ukraine with a predominance of moist air flows from the west,” says the forecaster.

Therefore, according to his forecast, the cool first half of the month and the warm second half will compensate for each other, and the final average monthly temperature for December will be close to the norm, and in Polissia and the northern regions it may be 1-2 degrees below the norm; in Transcarpathia, in the southern part and Crimea – above the norm by 1-2 degrees.

“The amount of precipitation will also be unevenly distributed. The first half of December will be dry, except for the extreme south and west, but the second half of the month will be generous with precipitation due to the passage of cyclones and atmospheric fronts. The total amount of precipitation for December in Ukraine will be about 100-120% from the climatic norm”, predicted Ihor Kibalchich.

He emphasized that permanent snow cover is not expected. During December, its distribution over the territory of the country will be patchy both in terms of area and height.

The world weather resource Wisemeteo predicts that December 2022 in Ukraine will be warm and with a small amount of snow.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the average monthly temperature in December is expected to range from 3° of frost to 2° of heat, which is within normal limits in most regions. The amount of precipitation is also expected to be within the climatic norm.

People’s forecaster Stanislav Shchedrin also predicts that December 2022 will be warm in Ukraine. He predicts little frost, but a lot of precipitation in the form of rain and sleet.
