The Ministry of Defense of Poland said that they do not understand why this air defense system cannot be transferred to Ukraine. The Ukrainian military has already learned to use many modern weapons systems.
Germany wants to transfer 8 Patriot air defense units to Poland.
At the same time, Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak called on Berlin to allow them to be stationed in Ukraine, writes the local publication Do Rzeczy.
In his opinion, the Patriot air defense system will work best if it is placed in the west of Ukraine. The Minister of Defense received a corresponding recommendation from anti-missile and anti-aircraft defense officers.
Blaszczak added that this will allow to achieve two goals at once:
- effective protection of the Polish border and the territory of Ukraine;
- due to the protection of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, Ukrainian refugees will not have to leave their homes.
“I also do not understand the argument about the need for training, which is often given – all the time the supporting countries train Ukrainians in the use of many modern weapons systems, including such complex ones as HIMARS launchers or the NASAMS system,” – the head of the Ministry of Defense was indignant.
