Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi does not think that Russian President Volodymyr Putin will use nuclear weapons.

As he said during The New York Times DealBook Summit, when asked about the possibility of nuclear war, Putin wants to take over Ukraine and rule that territory.

“It seems to me that Putin’s aggression is completely predicted by him. He just wants to seize Ukraine and primitively destroy our population. And completely rule this territory,” Zelensky emphasized.

At the same time, he emphasized that Ukrainians are defending themselves. On the other hand, Putin himself does not completely control all the processes in the Russian army.

“Whether he can use nuclear weapons on this way – I can’t tell you. Because I believe that he does not completely control all the processes that take place in his army. So some people came and raped children – he says, he is nothing didn’t know about it. Someone came in and is shooting at civilians. He says that these are not his troops, they are some disguised ones,” the president said.

He added that during Russia’s seizure of Crimea, Putin “said for months that it’s not him, it’s incomprehensible people, and then he started saying ‘yes, it’s them.’

“That’s why he will use nuclear weapons or not – it definitely does not depend on our conversation with you. Moreover, he can use nuclear weapons in other territories as well. I think that you and I do not need to be afraid of this. We need to be afraid of Putin’s superiority. Give to him the territory of our state – it will taste and understand that there will be nothing for aggression,” Zelensky emphasized.

The head of state emphasized that Putin needs to be “put in his place”.

“I emphasize: he is very dependent on his society. And he really wants to live. And that’s why I don’t think that he will use nuclear weapons. This is my opinion. But I say again: the question of the adequacy of this person. I cannot for the level of adequacy of the President of Russia bear responsibility,” Zelenskyy said.

Russia’s nuclear threats

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Federation has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons.

In the spring of 2022, Russian officials discussed the possible use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, Russia launched a missile with a simulated nuclear warhead over Ukraine. Valery Ryabikh, director of development of the information and consulting company Defense Express, believes that this is a very powerful hint from Putin.

At the same time, military expert Oleg Zhdanov said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not be able to carry out nuclear strikes or blow up nuclear power plants. All these plans of his will be exposed in advance and pre-emptive strikes will be made against his bunker.
