What Orthodox holiday do Christians celebrate on December 3 – read on .
Proclus was a student of John Chrysostom. According to the legend, one day a person came to Chrysostom at night, but at that moment the saint was talking to some old man. Proclus decided not to distract the mentor and stood at his door so that no one would disturb the conversation. This happened three nights in a row. In the morning, Proclus saw the icon of the apostle Paul and realized that he was the same old man with whom Chrysostom had a dialogue.
Later, Proclus became the patriarch in Constantinople. When an earthquake occurred in the city, which destroyed many buildings and temples, he organized processions. During one of these moves, a young man walking in the crowd was lifted to the sky and then lowered to the ground. He said he heard angels singing in heaven. People began to repeat the words of the prayer, and the earthquake stopped.
What the church is celebrating today is the day of memory of St. Gregory
Gregory came from the city of Decapolis in Isauria, so he was nicknamed Decapolis. He fell in love with the Lord from an early age, so he decided to devote himself to a pious and ascetic life. When he came of age, he refused to marry, left home and became a monk.
The saint lived in the 9th century, at the time when the rulers were persecuting Christianity. Grigory wandered from place to place, preaching his religion and exposing heretics in false faith. He supported the Orthodox in every possible way, comforted the prisoners in prisons. Died peacefully in Constantinople.

What can’t be done today
Our ancestors believed that on December 3, evil spirits enter the world of the living. That is why it was necessary to close the door to the house behind you, otherwise evil spirits will extract financial well-being. For the same reason, you cannot leave the door open at night – you will live with devils all year. Also, on this day, the Slavs tried not to go anywhere, but there is nothing mystical about this prohibition – in ancient times, the roads were muddy and it would hardly be possible to go far.
What can be done on December 3
On this date, Orthodox believers pray to St. Proclus for a good road for travelers. They also ask for protection and support for children. People have used December 3 for centuries to curse evil spirits and protect their home from their influence. It was believed that if you wished them as seriously as possible to stay underground, then they would not harm your family.
