The United States of America will focus on disrupting the supply of weapons from Iran to Russia, which the aggressor will use in the war against Ukraine, and not on reviving the nuclear deal.

According to Bloomberg, the US Special Envoy for Iran, Robert Malley, noted that Tehran is not yet seeking to restore the nuclear deal.

“Right now, we can make a difference by trying to contain and disrupt the arms supply to Russia and by trying to support the fundamental aspirations of the Iranian people,” Malley said.

Iran ramps up uranium enrichment activities and limits international monitoring. Last month, at an IAEA meeting, the country was condemned for obstructing the study of uranium particles found at several undeclared sites. In addition, Iran has demanded an end to the IAEA investigation as part of any renewal of the nuclear deal, a condition rejected by the US and its allies.

Although negotiations with Iran were not officially abandoned, they have actually been frozen since the end of August. Therefore, the United States has an interest in focusing all its forces on disrupting potential arms supplies from Iran to Russia.

Malli added that if Iran sends ballistic missiles to Russia or helps build weapons facilities, it will mean Iran has “crossed another line.”

Russia’s war against Ukraine: the role of Iran

In the autumn, Russia actively used Iranian kamikaze drones for strikes against Ukraine. However, in the last weeks of November, the occupiers almost did not launch these drones.

The head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Southern Security and Defense Forces, Nataliya Gumenyuk, said that the decrease in the use of Iranian kamikaze drones “Shahed-136” by the Russians may indicate both the end of stocks and a change in the tactics of their further use.

According to media reports, Russia paid Iran 140 million euros in cash and handed over a number of Western weapons captured in the war in exchange for kamikaze drones. British and American weapons entered Iran.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Federation concluded an agreement with Iran on the production of drones on Russian territory. It is noted that the Kremlin reached an agreement with the Iranian authorities to begin the production of hundreds of drones on Russian territory in early November.
