Analysts note that the armed forces are likely preparing to take advantage of the frozen ground to facilitate the advance.
The Ukrainian army will be able to achieve consistent success in the winter if it maintains the ability to maintain superiority and continue operational successes.
As analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) report with reference to Ukrainian officials, the Armed Forces of Ukraine plan to continue offensive operations during the winter in order to consolidate successes and prevent Russian troops from seizing the initiative on the battlefield. However, American intelligence predicts “a slowdown in the pace of the war in Ukraine during the winter.”
As experts of the institute point out, the ability of Ukraine to retain the military initiative and continue the dynamics of current operational successes depends on whether Ukrainian forces will continue to conduct consecutive operations in the winter.
Analysts also suggest that the U.S. Army is likely preparing to take advantage of the frozen ground to facilitate the advance compared to the mud movement typical of the fall months.
ISW also reported with reference to Russian sources that Ukrainian troops are continuing their counteroffensive in the Kremin and Swativ areas, and the occupiers are conducting offensive operations in the area of Bakhmut and Avdiyivka.
At the same time, the Russians continue to have problems with mobics. Mobilized groups disrupt the efforts of the Russian army command to build up forces, refusing to fight, showing disobedience and audacity.
The war in Ukraine: forecast for the winter
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) predicted that the armed forces could take advantage of the frozen terrain to move more easily than in the fall.
British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons emphasized that Ukrainian defenders know how to fight in winter.
Adviser to the Ministry of Defense, head of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Serhiy Kuzan, also believes that the Armed Forces are generally ready for winter combat.
