Ukrainian singer FIINKA, who became a finalist of the National Selection for Eurovision 2023, told the story of writing the competition song “Dovbush”. In an interview with , she mentioned that she wrote the words a few days before the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine:
“I wrote the song “Dovbush” on the basis of the legendary song about Dovbush “Oi, popod gai zelenenky” two days before the start of the war, when Moscow tanks were already standing on our borders.”
FIINKA added – the image of Dovbush now resonates with the image of the Ukrainian defender.
“I wrote with the thought that we have nothing to fear, because our boys have Opryshk blood, the blood of real superheroes. Since Dovbush (the most famous of the Opryshks) is courageous, fair, fearless, any girl would want such a economy”. And look at how everything turned out: really now the girls are rooting for our heroes, for superheroes, otherwise you can’t call our Armed Forces. And now I am sure that this superpower flows through our veins, because it is passed on to us from generation to generation,” the musician explained.
With her song, FIINKA wants to show the whole world the energy and strength that Ukraine has.
“The whole world is watching Ukraine now. The whole world is wondering where we have so much strength, energy and morale to withstand all these trials. We are not afraid of anything, we know how to live and enjoy life despite everything. It’s not just like that, this love to life and freedom was handed down to us from our ancestors. That’s why my song is danceable, energetic and positive. We definitely need positivity right now,” summed up the finalist of the National Selection.
She will perform under number 5.
