The Day of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces honors servicemen who make a huge contribution to the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.
Every year on December 12, Ukraine celebrates Ground Forces Day. The holiday is dedicated to all military personnel who are part of the mechanized, tank, missile forces, military aviation, artillery, landing forces and others.
During the war, all soldiers of the Ground Forces risk their lives for the independence and freedom of Ukraine, so this holiday is especially important now. Date and history of Ground Forces Day
The modern Ukrainian army was created in 1991, and in 1996, the Ground Forces of Ukraine – their largest unit – were formed within the Armed Forces. The professional holiday of servicemen of the Ground Forces was established by the decree of Leonid Kuchma in 1997, and the date of the holiday was chosen on December 12.
