Saint Sava lived at the end of the 4th – beginning of the 5th century, he came from a rich and pious family. When the boy was 8 years old, he went to the monastery and showed himself as a responsible and strict ascetic, so he was made a monk even in his teens. At the age of sixteen, Saint Sava went to Palestine to worship the holy places, where it was predicted to him that he would become a respected person and the founder of a great Lavra.
Many relatives asked Sava to return to the world, but he refused. In order to fight the evil spirit more successfully, the saint went to a cave, where he learned hermitage. Many disciples began to come to him, and a holy monastery was founded. Later, Sava founded several more such places, an almshouse, a hospital, and shelters for beggars. Saint Sava died at the age of 95, and during his life he did many important things for Christianity.
In honor of the memory of the saint, a national holiday is celebrated today on December 18, 2022 – Savin’s Day.
The Orthodox holiday of December 18 is the day of memory of Saint Karion
Karion lived in the 4th century and led a pious lifestyle, had a wife and children. But soon the man wanted to go to the monastery to lead an ascetic life and serve the Lord. He left his daughter with his mother, and took his son with him and brought him up in Christian traditions. When Karion’s son grew up, he became a monk. Both father and son earned the Lord’s love and therefore were counted among the saints.
