Saint Sava lived at the end of the 4th – beginning of the 5th century, he came from a rich and pious family. When the boy was 8 years old, he went to the monastery and showed himself as a responsible and strict ascetic, so he was made a monk even in his teens. At the age of sixteen, Saint Sava went to Palestine to worship the holy places, where it was predicted to him that he would become a respected person and the founder of a great Lavra.

Many relatives asked Sava to return to the world, but he refused. In order to fight the evil spirit more successfully, the saint went to a cave, where he learned hermitage. Many disciples began to come to him, and a holy monastery was founded. Later, Sava founded several more such places, an almshouse, a hospital, and shelters for beggars. Saint Sava died at the age of 95, and during his life he did many important things for Christianity.

In honor of the memory of the saint, a national holiday is celebrated today on December 18, 2022 – Savin’s Day.

Karion lived in the 4th century and led a pious lifestyle, had a wife and children. But soon the man wanted to go to the monastery to lead an ascetic life and serve the Lord. He left his daughter with his mother, and took his son with him and brought him up in Christian traditions. When Karion’s son grew up, he became a monk. Both father and son earned the Lord’s love and therefore were counted among the saints.

Christians do not visit on December 18 and do not invite anyone themselves – Sava is celebrated in the family circle. It is forbidden to work on this day, especially for women. Quarrels and taking offense are also not allowed – this is a sin on any church holiday.

What can be done on December 18

Saint Sava is considered a healer and miracle worker, so on this day you can go to church to pray to the saint for recovery. Women also ask him for a successful marriage, pregnancy and well-being for the family. Despite the fact that women cannot work on December 18, you can do needlework, so on this day you can, for example, embroider.
