Jerusalem hopes that a way will be found to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible
The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The main topic was the war in Ukraine and preventing the transfer of nuclear weapons to Iran.
“President of Russia Vladimir Putin recently called Prime Minister-elect Binyamin Netanyahu and congratulated him on his victory in the elections and the formation of the government. The leaders of the two countries discussed a number of issues, the main of which is the war in Ukraine,” NEWSru reports.
At the same time, Netanyahu told Putin that he hoped for an early end to the war in Ukraine. He also assured that he is ready to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
“Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the leader of the Likud party, Benjamin Netanyahu, who won the parliamentary elections in Israel. Current issues of the bilateral agenda and the international situation were discussed. Mutual confidence was expressed that Russian-Israeli relations will continue to develop gradually, and contacts Vladimir Putin congratulated Binyamin Netanyahu and all Israelis on the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, which is being celebrated these days,” Russia said in turn.
Israel’s position regarding the war in Ukraine – what is known
From the first days of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Jerusalem decided to be neutral. In October, Prime Minister of Israel Yair Lapid stated that his country will not supply Ukraine with weapons.
Later, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, after a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian colleague Oleksiy Riznkov, said that Jerusalem would still help Kyiv, but would not provide an air defense system.
In turn, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Israel to decide whose side they are on.
